Equipment Operator Class Series (EO Trainee/EO/EO Senior)
The Kansas Department of Transportation is looking for dependable, trainable, team players with good communication skills to become part of our family. KDOT is currently hiring an Equipment Operator Trainee position in Sharon Springs, KS.
Position is eligible for promotion to an Equipment Operator with completion of 6 months’ experience and completion of training program. On-the-job training is provided to obtain a CDL within sixty days. An annual $250 Personal Protection Equipment allowance is available. Insurance benefits, including health, prescription, dental and vision are provided at a minimal cost. Other benefits include vacation and sick leave. This position is subject to pre-employment physical and drug testing. Pre-Employment Physical Testing Required: This position is subject to pre-employment physical testing. The selected candidate will be required to pass the screening as a condition of employment in this position. Valid unrestricted driver’s license is required at the time of hire. Starting pay is $12.66/hour.
Position duties & responsibilities: Maintain highways & facilities through activities such as repairs, resurfacing, mowing & snow & ice control. Operate dump trucks, small & medium-size loaders, mowers, tractor, rollers & power brooms to perform various maintenance tasks. Operate a loader or truck-mounted plow & spreader in snow & ice control operations. Perform manual labor associated with maintenance activities, including the operation of miscellaneous equipment such as chain saws, weed eaters, pumps, compressors, jackhammers, generators, power tools & various hand tools. Setup & remove temporary traffic control & serve as flag person for maintenance work zones. On-the-job training is provided.
