Lloyd Eugene Brown

Lloyd Eugene Brown, age 93, passed away at the Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, Kansas on Sunday, May 19, 2019. He was born on September 2, 1925 on the family homestead in northwest Wichita County, Kansas, the son of Charles Everett Brown and Addie Ellen (Sides) Brown. Lloyd attended Wichita County High School in Leoti and graduated in 1943. Soon after graduation he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He served in the 77th Infantry Division in the Pacific Theater, and earned two Bronze Stars with a V for Valor, and a Purple Heart for his distinguished battle while in the Service of his country. Following his release from military active duty, Lloyd attended Central Christian College in McPherson, Kansas and graduated in 1948. He earned an Associate’s Degree and went on to attend Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois, where he met and married the love of his life. On August 28, 1949, he married Jeanne Louise Clark in Battle Creek, Michigan. To this union four children were born, David, Pamela, Scott, and Jeremy. Lloyd and Jeanne raised their kids while actively farming southwest Wallace County until early in 2016, when he retired and they moved to Tribune. Lloyd was a long term member of Gideon’s International and the Purple Heart Society. He was a faithful charter member and advocate for the West Bethany Free Methodist Church and served in many lay leadership roles throughout his life. He was a long standing member of the Wichita county Men’s Christian Brotherhood and served in various capacities, including President. While his children were involved in 4-H, he served actively in various leadership roles for the Harrison Endeavors 4-H Club. He was a member of the Greeley county Farm Cooperative Board of Advisors. He drove a school bus for Harrison flats School in Wallace County for fourteen years and imparted many life lessons to Wallace County children. He and Jeanne opened their home to several young people whose parents were relocating, allowing students to complete their school terms in place. Lloyd enjoyed people and delighted in being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and any other visitors, particularly in the last few years since his retirement. He had a humble, gentle spirit and a hospitable, giving nature.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Charles Everett Brown; mother, Addie Ellen (Sides) Brown; 3three brothers, Harold Brown, Ervin Brown, Elvin Brown; one sister, Carol Brown.

He is survived by his spouse Jeanne Louise Brown of Tribune, KS; three sons, David (& wife Beverly) Brown of SE Wallace Co., KS, Scott (& wife Jessica) Brown of Tribune, KS, Jeremy (& wife Karen) Brown of Shawnee, KS; one daughter, Pamela (& husband Raymond) Forbes of Ocala, FL; one brother, Charles (& wife Margaret) Brown of Auburn, WA; one sister, Ella Johanson of Florence, KY. 

He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jayme (& husband Buck) Bishop of Leoti, KS, Andrew Brown of Hutchinson, KS, Shandra (& husband David) Daniels of Casper, WY, Mackenzie (& husband Eric) Blakeslee of Manhattan, KS, Maria (& husband Bryce) Cavanee of Tribune, KS, Theodore Broan of Shawnee, KS, Colt, Kinlyn & Daxton Brown of Tribune, KS; and eleven great grandchildren: Tristan, Teagan, Abby & Zoey Bishop of Leoti, KS, Jacob Brown of Hutchinson, KS, Shianne, Rikki, Adrianne & Davena Daniels of Casper, WY, Macyn & Emry Cavanee of Tribune, KS; and by honorary granddaughters: Alexis Govert & Heather Mangold of Tribune, KS; and many family members and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11:00 AM (CDT) at the West Bethany Free Methodist Church, 1698 N. County Road 3, Leoti, KS. Visitation will be held, from 10:00 AM to service time. Burial will follow at the West Bethany Cemetery in rural Greeley County.
