When Cora Lea and I go to Colorado Springs, we like to spend some time at the Garden of the Gods. The Visitors Center is located on the east side of the Garden of the Gods.
The Visitors Center has jewelry and other things for sale. It also has several exhibits, which tell the story of the Garden of the Gods. On the top floor of the Visitors Center, is a snack bar. We like to get a large pretzel and a coke. We then sit at an outdoors table, nibble on the pretzel and sip our coke.
What a beautiful sight, looking west over the different rock formations, which are tilted on edge. The backdrop of that view is the majestic mountain, Pike’s Peak. When we have the grandkids with us, I like to tell them a story about the formation called, “The Kissing Camels.” My wife says, “What I really want to do is brag a little.” I tell them that on top of “The Kissing Camels,” is a heart with Cora Lea’s and my initials carved in the rock. I did that work of “art” over 70 years ago.
My grandkids look at me in disbelief. I tell them that when you are a crazy teenager, and madly in love with a pretty little girl, you will do about anything to impress her. Love is the most powerful motivator in the world.
Jesus said, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matthew 22:37, 39.
We live in a very troubled world. Only as we love God wth all our heart and our neighbor as ourselves, can we have peace within and live in peace with others. Try a little love!
Pastor Paul McNall
