On Monday, April 17th, the Kansas Press Association released the results of the 2023 Awards of Excellence. The Western Times is proud to report receiving a total of 17 awards, including 5 first place, 5 second place, and 7 third place awards.
Lace David won 1st place Best Special Section – Editorial (Div I, II) for her 2022 Christmas Issue, Best Use of Color (Div I, II, III) for her design of the ad/poster for the Wallace County Fair, and Feature Photo (Div I) for her Topper Photo of Liseberg, an amusement park in the heart of Gothenburg, Sweden.
Also earning a 1st place for The Western Times, Mari Davis, who won 1st and 2nd place (Div I) for 2 entries in the Religious Story category, and 1st place (Div I) Column Writing for her Bloom column.
Corey David won 2nd place (Div I, II, III, IV) in the new category, Best Online Photo Series/Gallery with his Tornado Rips Through Sharon Springs photo series.
Lace David received 2nd place Best Professional Ad (Div I, II, III) for her USD 241 Honor Roll Ad design, Best Political Ad (Div I, II, III) for Maggie Figurilli’s campaign ad, and Best Entertainment ad (Div I, II, III) for a Towns End Tavern ad.
The KPA awarded the team of Lace David, Corey David, and Jonathan Howard 3rd place Best Website (Div I, II, III, IV) for The Western Times website.
The combined efforts of Lace David and Corey David earned The Western Times a 3rd place award in the Best Use of Photos category (Div I and II) for the layout of the Tornado, Memorial Day/Rodeo Weekend, and Christmas photos.
Lace David was awarded 3rd place in (Div I, II, III) for Best Automotive Ad – Sharon Springs Auto Parts, Best Heathcare Ad – Carli Haislip’s Free Dental Work ad, Best Agriculture Ad – Oxtown help wanted, and Best Community Event Ad - Wallace County Cruizers Car Show ad. Her Series “Traveling Abroad” about her travels to Sweden last fall, received a 3rd place mention as well.
The AOE Awards Ceremony will be held in June.
