The Strand Theater was showing “Under Siege” starring Steven Seagal, Gary Busey, and Tommy Lee Jones. The following movie was “The Last of the Mohicans” starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe.
Joe Bussen presented Dorothy Okeson a check from another successful Tootsie Roll Drive for their Sherman-Wallace County special needs group.
Photos of former Wallace County residents, Ray & Millie Wostenberg, were published. They had recently celebrated their 50th anniversary at their home in Roseburg, OR.
Make-It-Yourself-With-Wool Contest winners included Heather Frasier in the junior category and Rachael Frasier in the pre-teen group.
In the Spirit of Christmas Past, a tour of the oldest homes in town was set for Dec. 6. Proceeds would go to the scholarship fund of the American Association of University Women.
60 Years Ago (1962)
A council committee of Father Ignatius Manzo, Ed Johnson (Winona), Leo Bussen, Hubert Basgall, Bernard Brown, and Art Gaschler finalized plans for instituting a Knights of Columbus council locally.
Approximately 75 percent of Wallace County citizens took the 2-day oral polio vaccine, administered by the Dr. Chung. The state-wide percent was 60%.
Willie Hurde, WCCHS senior, received honorable mention on the 1962 Topeka Daily Capital-Journal H.S. football team.
Some of the Weskan events that week included Tuesday coffee with Mr. & Mrs. Warren Owens, Friday dinner with Mr. & Mrs. Mac Purvis, and Sunday birthday dinner at the W. T. Connolly home.

110 Years Ago (1912)
The Wallace County Irrigation & Development Association was organized for the purpose of interesting people in shallow and deep well irrigation. Initial officers were George Cox as chairman, L. A. Johnson as treasurer, and Harry Wheeler as secretary.
The Sharon Mission Society of the Lutheran Church would hold their next monthly meeting at the Carl Nelson residence.
Former resident, James A. Steele, returned for a week’s visit to his sons, John and Henry Steele.
The Stockholm News section reported that Anna and Arthur Hedberg returned from McAllaster the prior week. They would be spending the winter on their homestead south of Stockholm.
David Paul sold C. L. Harper 21 turkeys that Saturday for consideration of $56. The Western Times editor quipped that it may pay to raise turkeys in Western Kansas.
