The Strand Theater was showing “Home Alone 3” starring Alex D. Linz. The following movie was “Disney’s Mr. Magoo” starring Leslie Nielsen, Kelly Lynch, and Stephen Tobolowsky.
Bernice Jones would be honored with a card shower for her upcoming 95th birthday.
Funeral services were held for long-time resident Orville Walker, 90. His family moved to Sharon Springs in 1920 when he was 12 years old.
Joan K. Weaver provided a program called “A Common Thread” at the annual Soil Conservation Banquet. She would portray several women and demonstrate spinning and weaving over the years. She had already presented programs to both schools.
Mindy Robinson, daughter of Greg & Gloria Robinson of Weskan, was among the students listed on the fall semester Dean’s List at Bethany College.
55 Years Ago (1968)
A potluck dinner was held in the social room of the Pilgrim Holiness Church as a farewell honoring Mr. & Mrs. Clifford Newell and their children, Clifford, Donald, and Patricia. The Newells were moving near Oberlin.
The Social Hour Club were set to meet on February 1 with Mrs. Mabel Waugh and Faith Compton as co-hostesses.
Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Fuentez, Sharon Springs, announced the arrival of a baby girl, Christina Linn. She was born in Cheyenne Wells on January 18.
Keeping up with their tradition for the past several years, Heyl Motor Company loaned out a car to a local school for driver’s education. Weskan High School was slated to receive the car at the start of their semester.
The Strand Theater was showing “Barefoot in the Park” starring Robert Redford, Jane Fonda, and Charles Boyer.
85 Years Ago (1938)
Ruth McGhghy, daughter of Mrs. Viva O’Brien, and Roy Cochrane, son of Mrs. Belle Cochrane, were united in marriage at the home of Mrs. O’Brien on Gardner Street.
Funeral services were held for long-time Wallace resident, Charley E. Grover. He was born in August of 1872 in Illinois. His family moved to Wallace in 1884, where he resided ever since.
Paul Ricketts succeeded Dean O’Brien as supervisor of business and finance at the local welfare office.
Ed Morin announced that the annual celebration of President Roosevelt’s birthday would be held at the Township Hall on Friday night. These events were held all over the country to raise funds to fight infantile paralysis.
The newly organized Sons of the American Legion held their first meeting. Fourteen sons were present and would have their names on the charter.
