USD 242 Board Meeting - December 2022

1.   CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 7:00 pm in the Board Room on December 12th, 2022 with Board President Eric Purvis presiding. 
2.  ROLL CALL
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Gabe Cox, Mr. Eric Purvis, Mr. Kyle Riedel, Mr. Macy Sexson, Mrs. Chris Smith
ARRIVING LATER:  Mr. Aaron Aldridge, Mr. Nolan Cox 
OTHERS PRESENT: Mrs. Amy Rother (Superintendent), Mrs. Candy Cox (Clerk)
3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 5-0. 
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve the minutes as presented.  Motion carried 5-0.
5. COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD 
Mrs. Rother gave the Superintendent’s report on the Small School Alliance Meeting, he January 13th In-service plan, a calendar committee representative (Mr. Riedel volunteered), buss issues, applicants, defensive driving class, CTE pathways, window replacements, new students, Health Insurance update, Administrators contracts.
(Mr. Aldridge and Mr. Nolan Cox arrived at 7:14 pm.
Mrs. Smith did not have anything to report from NWKTC.
Mrs. Cox reported she had transferred $1142 from general fund to food service to cover the cost of second helpings for the first semester.
6. HEARINGS FROM INDIVIDUALS IN THE AUDIENCE
7.  EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to enter into executive session at 7:35 pm to discuss matters relating to personnel.  He further moved to return to the open session at 7:40 pm.  The justification for the executive session is non-elected personnel exception under KOMA.  The purpose for the executive session is to protect the privacy rights of an identifiable individual. Mrs. Rother was invited to attend.  Motion carried 7-0. Meeting reconvened at 7:40 pm. 
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Aldridge) moved to enter into executive session at 7:40 pm.  He further moved to return to the open session at 8:15 pm.  The justification for the executive session is to discuss matters relating to student matters.  The purpose for the executive session is to protect the privacy rights of an identifiable individual.  Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 7:40 pm.
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Aldridge) moved to enter into executive session at 8:15 pm.  He further moved to return to the open session at 8:30 pm.  The justification for the executive session is to discuss matters relating to student matters.  The purpose for the executive session is to protect the privacy rights of an identifiable individual.  Motion carried 7-0.   Mrs. Rother was invited to attend.  The meeting reconvened at 8:30 pm.
8.  PERSONNEL
Mr. Aldridge (Mr. Riedel) moved to pay a stipend of $500 to Mrs. Van Allen for creating and renewing the CTE Health Science pathways.  Motion carried 7-0.  
9.  NEW BUSINESS 
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the quote from Cheyenne Wells Lumber for the quote for windows for the announcer’s both and the rental house on Coyote Blvd, provided labor and finish work is included in the bod.  Motion carried 7-0.
10. APPROVAL OF BILLS
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Aldridge) moved to approve the bills as presented.  Motion carried 7-0.
11. COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS FROM BOARD MEMBERS
12. ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Purvis declared the meeting adjourned at 8:40 pm.
