Margaret Jean Mantey Mann

Margaret Jean Mantey Mann, a 1963 graduate from WCHS, died in San Francisco, CA on May 18, 2024 after a valiant fight with cancer, kidney failure and crohn’s disease.  At the time of her death, she was living with her son and his family in San Francisco.  Services were held in Oregon on June 19th.
Margaret was born at St. Thomas Hospital in Colby, KS on October 24, 1945 to Paul J. and Alma Jean Mantey.  She had four older brothers at home waiting for their new sister.    The Mantey family lived in Oakley, KS until June of 1947 when they moved to Sharon Springs, KS. where Paul had the job as a signal maintainer for the Union Pacific Railroad.   Alma Jean was the organist for Holy Ghost Catholic Church for years and Margaret was active in the Catholic Church growing up.
Margaret started first grade in 1951 in Sharon Springs and was with her class 12 years until graduation.  She enjoyed both vocal and instrumental music (played the French Horn) and excelled in academics. 
After graduation, Margaret attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska where she received a Bachelor of Science degree and became a registered nurse. In the fall of 1967, she went to Oakland, CA  to work in the Children’s Hospital.  She worked at this hospital for 3 years until she and her husband, who was a doctor, decided to move to his home state of Oregon.  Margaret lived in Eugene, Oregon from 1970-2023 and loved the lush landscape and milder climate.  She was a Charge Nurse at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend, OR when she retired in 2012 and was a dedicated nurse for 45 years. For many years, Margaret was a single mom who was devoted to her two sons, Stephen and Robert.  She also was a loving grandma, sister, aunt and friend.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: John Mantey of Boulder, CO and James Mantey of Boca Raton, FL .
Margaret is survived by two sons: Stephen (Amber) Mann of Eugene, OR, and Robert (Hyejin) Mann of San Francisco, CA, two grandsons, Leo and Louis Mann, a sister, Ann (Gary) Bloemker of Brush, CO, two brothers, Patrick (Gail) Mantey of Los Gatos, CA and Philip (Katherine) Mantey of Bay Village, OH, two sisters-in-law, Erma Mantey of Boulder, CO and Sandra Mantey of Boca Raton, FL and many nieces, nephews and friends.
