A Christmas Memory

On a cold winter day, I woke up on Christmas morning and peeked out the window. What I saw was glistening snow falling to the ground. 
I soon heard the footsteps of my siblings creeping up the stairs to see what was under the tree. Stockings of red, white, and green were hung over the mantle with dozens of goodies for each child. The sweet smell of the pine tree lingered through the house, and we anxiously opened our gifts, astonished to find some of our favorite things inside. 
As I look around, the room is filled with joy and remnants of wrapping paper everywhere. 
When the lunch bell rings, we sit down to a lavish meal prepared by Mom and Dad. The table is filled with sizzling honey ham, creamy mashed potatoes, homemade dinner rolls, desserts of all kinds, and many more savory foods to satisfy our hungry family. 
We finished eating the delicious meal and decide to bundle up and head outside to play in the snow with friends and family. 
We play for hours in the freezing cold, throwing snowballs, building a giant snowman that resembles “Frosty” and when we can’t feel our toes anymore, we head inside for a steaming cup of hot cocoa topped with fluffy white marshmallows. 
As the day turns into evening, our mother reads us the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. We listen to the long journey that Mary and Joseph took to Bethlehem. 
When the story is finished, we are filled with gratitude for the good Lord above sending his Son to this sinful Earth. 
Our mom tucks us into our warm cozy beds, and we stare at the lights hanging from the fireplace until our sleepy eyes finally close tight for the night. Christmas is over, but we know that the story of Jesus is not! 
May we never forget the sacrifice that baby Jesus made for us so that  we may have wonderful memories like this one, on these beautiful Christmas days.
