Randall Ray Sangster

Randall R. “Randy” Sangster, age 73, of Oakley, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022 at the Citizens Medical Center, Colby, Kansas.
Randall Ray Sangster was born on June 10th, 1949 in Ashland, KS to Robert and Margaret Sangster.  Raised in Protection, KS on a family dairy farm with his sister Marilyn (Charles) Huslig and two brothers Rodney (Sharon) and Jeffrey Sangster.  Randy graduated from Protection High School in 1967 as Valedictorian of his class.  After graduation, he attended Wichita State University and Bethel College before moving to Loveland, CO and becoming an assistant manager at a Duckwalls.  Later, Randy moved to Sharon Springs, KS to work on a family farm.  While living in Sharon Springs, Randy had the opportunity to work under Landmark for the revaluation of property in the state of Kansas leading him to become the county appraiser for numerous counties and opening Sunflower Appraisal.  Randy’s favorite part of being an appraiser was the agricultural side, he spent many hours driving on country roads.  Randy thought that if a dirt road took him somewhere there was no need for a highway.  Randy moved to Oakley in 1998 when he married his wife, Pat (Close) where he resided until his death.
Randy had three daughters, Shari (Dave) Oren, Suzanne (Jason) Schielke and Staci (Vince) Weigel.  In 1998, Randy gained three more children through marriage, Matthew (Danielle) Bertrand, Samantha (Shaelum) Barnett, and Stacy (Troy) Tauber.
Randy spent his free time with his 12 grandchildren, horses and his beloved dogs - Fred, Sadie, and StarBella.  He enjoyed spending time down at the farm and listening to his favorite song Let It Be Christmas, which he played all year long.  Randy believed that Christmas was not a season but could be whenever someone needed something anytime of the year.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Sangster, father-in-law Stuart Close and his sister-in-law Sharon Sangster.  He is survived by his wife Pat of the home, his 6 children, 12 grandchildren, 3 siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Randy had the best personality, always “peachy” as he would say, if anyone would ask him how he was doing.  Always polite and thoughtful of other’s feelings, he was slow tempered and a very smart man in every aspect of life.  Randy will be greatly missed by all.
