CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 6:30pm in the Board Room on February 11th, 2025 with Board President Eric Purvis presiding.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Mr. Nolan Cox (Mr. Macy Sexson) moved to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 5-0.
HEARINGS FROM INDIVIDUALS IN THE AUDIENCE
COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD
Teachers Report: Mr. Brett Clow reported on the teachers report. Mr. Billion has a 6-12 band concert coming up next week and the high school band members have been invited to play with the Colby Community College pep band at one of their home games.
Science Committee Report: Mrs. Jo Mote reported for the K-5 grades. She reported which curriculum the teachers liked better out of the 5 that they had material on. Ms. Tori Springsteel reported for the grades 6-12 and expressed her interest in the curriculum that would best fit for those grades.
6:46pm – Mrs. Mote and Ms. Springsteel left the meeting.
Athletic Director Report: Mr. Brett Clow reported about the HS Scholar’s bowl; a Powerlifting meet for the league on March 3; football All Star for 6 man being the 1st week of June – Trey Allen and Judah Crow have been invited; Brett is talking with Mr. Adam Smith to go to the State Capital for the football team as the 6 man State Champions; High School Basketball league results – Boys got 2nd and girls received 6th; Sub-state seedings will come out next Tuesday and let the board know about hosting games in Goodland; Jr. High basketball league coming up and gave updates on it; Brett gave an update on the gym floor from a guy that came out and looked it over; Brett also talked about getting railings put up in the gym on the one side.
Assistant Principal’s Report: Mrs. Laura Sexson talked about the scholarship update, college reps and college visitors, Wallace County job fair, K-6 Kansas field trip to Oakley, Farm Bureau days, School improvement day, KELI program, evaluation update and conversations wrapping up for this year with planning for next, Booster Club fundraiser for the Goodwin family.
Superintendent’s Report: Mr. John Cox spoke about the KSDE Audit – concurrent credit; Para Support schedule; Teacher Apprentice meeting; Fidelity Business checking account and the Door open alarms from Verkada.
7:32pm – Mr. Clow left the meeting
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved to enter into executive session at 7:32pm. He further moved to return to the open session at 7:40pm. The justification for the executive session is to discuss matters relating to student matters. The purpose for the executive session is to protect the privacy rights of an identifiable individual, under KOMA. Mr. John Cox and Mrs. Laura Sexson were invited to attend. Motion carried 5-0. The meeting reconvened at 7:40pm.
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved to enter into executive session at 7:40pm. He further moved to return to the open session at 8:05pm. The items to be discussed in the executive is to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA. Motion carried 5-0. Mr. John Cox and Mrs. Sexson were invited to attend. Mrs. Sexson was released from executive session at 7:55pm. The meeting reconvened at 8:05pm.
CONSENT AGENDA
Mr. Aldridge (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved to approve the consent agenda as presented containing the following items:
Hiring – Adding 1.5 hours to USD 242 Schedule for Brie Box, Nichole Walker and Michelle Schemm at $13.00/hour.
Approval of the Bills presented
Approve the minutes as presented
Motion carried 5-0.
OLD BUSINESS:
Mr. Nolan Cox (Mr. Aldridge) nominated Mr. Purvis to retain as President. Mr. Sexson (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved that nominations cease and a unanimous ballot be cast for Mr. Purvis. Motion carried 5-0.
Mr. Nolan Cox (Mr. Riedel) nominated Mr. Gabe Cox for Vice-President. Mr. Sexson (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved that nominations cease and a unanimous ballot be cast for Mr. Gabe Cox. Motion carried 5-0.
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve the semi-annual policy from KASB excluding DFH, JGFGAA and JGFGBA. Motion carried 5-0.
Mr. Aldridge (Mr. Sexson) moved to approve the superintendent’s contract as presented. Motion carried 5-0.
Mr. Riedel (Mr. Sexson) moved to approve the AptaFund software upgrade as presented. Motion carried 5-0.
8:38pm – Mr. Aldridge left the meeting
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve the BOE policy and Faculty handbook as presented. Motion carried 4-0.
8:41pm – Mr. Aldridge returned to the meeting
