CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 7:00pm in the Board Room on May 12th, 2025 with Board President Eric Purvis presiding.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the agenda. Motion carried 6-0.
HEARINGS FROM INDIVIDUALS IN THE AUDIENCE
COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD
Athletic Director Report: Mr. Clow gave the report on the football trip to Lawrence, Topeka and Manhattan for the 6-man state championship. He gave an update for the upcoming school year on football for high school and Jr. High. Brett gave the board an update on high school volleyball and basketball, with emphasis on the shot clock for basketball. He talked about getting more games for the Jr. High basketball, for C team and working on those schedules. League track will be in Logan, regionals in Oberlin and the let the board know that Karsyn Wright is the new school record holder of the 100, 200 and 400. The gym floors will be worked on the 1st week of August.
Assistant Principal’s Report: Mrs. Laura Sexson gave the report on the college and career update; scholarships for the seniors as to this date were a total of $34,595.00. Mrs. Sexson gave the board an update with all the events happening during this last month of school and other updates.
Superintendent’s Report: Mr. John Cox gave the report on KDHE measles dashboard and guidelines; negotiations; football stadium bathrooms; 25-26 class schedule; facility management plan; Science textbook quote; Graduation; Track Fencing; Open Enrollment – JBC & JBCC enrollment; and the Wallace County Foundation Endowment Investment
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to enter into executive session at 7:40pm. He further moved to return to the open session at 8:00pm. The items to be discussed in the executive is to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA. Motion carried 6-0. Mr. John Cox, Mrs. Sexson and Mr. Brett Clow were invited to attend. The meeting reconvened at 8:00pm.
Mr. Sexson (Mrs. Smith) moved to enter into executive session at 8:00pm. He further moved to return to the open session at 8:10pm. The items to be discussed in the executive is to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA. Motion carried 6-0. Mr. John Cox and Mrs. Sexson were invited to attend. The meeting reconvened at 8:10pm.
Mr. Nolan Cox (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to enter into executive session at 8:15pm to discuss negotiations and to return to the open meeting at 8:40pm. The justification for the executive session is the exception for employer-employee negotiations under KOMA, Mr. John Cox was invited to attend. Motion carried 6-0. Meeting reconvened at 8:40pm.
Mrs. Kasten, Mrs. Bretz and Mr. Clow left the meeting at 8:50pm.
CONSENT AGENDA
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Sexson) moved to approve the consent agenda as presented containing the following items:
Resignations from Peggy Simmons via phone call and Shelby Baehler with her letter.
Out of District Student approval – Open Enrollment Policy
Approval of the Bills presented
Approval of the minutes as presented
Motion carried 6-0.

Surplus Sale Board Policy KK – Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve the sale of surplus items. Motion carried 7-0.
