The Sharon Springs City Council met in regular session Monday, August 5, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. Those present were Mayor Verlan Wagoner and Council Members: President Jay Sharp, Tim Elder, Dennis Mote, Steve Paul, AB Smith, City Attorney Allan Hurlburt, City Clerk Angie Van Allen, City Foreman Donald Henderson, Darren Pletcher, Missi Pletcher, Yancy Still and Traci Still.
Mr. Wagoner called the regular meeting for August 5, 2024 to order at 5:30 p.m.
Darren Pletcher presented to Council a safety issue with a City light pole that he would like removed on one of his properties. This will be addressed by the City Foreman. Darren also presented to Council a request to move a light pole to allow for a driveway into his new apartments. No decision was taken at this time.
Yancy Still presented a building permit. Mr. Mote made a motion to approve the building permit as presented. Mr. Elder seconded the motion, motion approved.
The Wallace County Free Fair presented a bed tax request in the amount of $750.00 for advertising. Mr. Sharp made a motion to approve the request, the motion was seconded by Mr. Mote, motion approved.
Mr. Paul moved to approve the regular meeting minutes of July 1, 2024, the motion was seconded by Mr. Elder, motion approved. Mr. Mote moved to approve the minutes of the special meeting of July 16, 2024, with corrections. Mr. Paul seconded the motion, motion approved. Mr. Sharp moved to accept payroll and vouchers as presented: voucher checks- #31298-#31312; manual checks-#31313-#31334; payroll checks- #31282-#31297; and ACH #629-#635. Mr. Smith seconded the motion, motion approved.
Requisitions were presented to Council, one for Stanion Wholesale Electric Co. in the amount of $740.29 and one to Central Plains Equipment in the amount of $8,405.55. Mr. Mote approved the two requisitions as presented, seconded by Mr. Sharp, motion approved.
City Superintendent Report: City Foreman Donald Henderson attended the meeting and updated council on the radio read system and contact he has had with different vendors. He mentioned the equipment rental list needs reviewed by Council. He also made Council aware that he will be running engines at the plant for capability testing purposes.
City Attorney Report: City Attorney Allan Hurlburt briefed the Council on a municipal matter with another dog complaint.
Council Member Reports: It was discussed that weed nuisance letters need to be mailed to customers where there is concern.
City Clerk Report: There has been a concern presented to the office by Rona Langdon in reference to the sidewalk condition at the Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.
