Sharon Springs City Council - March 2024

April 9, 2024

The Sharon Springs City Council met in regular session Monday, March 4, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. Those present were Mayor: Verlan Wagoner, Council Members: Jay Sharp, Tim Elder, Dennis Mote, Steve Paul, City Attorney Allan Hurlburt, City Clerk Wendy Keadle, Deputy Clerk Allison Mitchell, Ab Smith and James Wright.
Mayor Wagoner called the regular meeting for March 4, 2024 to order at 5:30 p.m.
Ab Smith was sworn in by Mayor Wagoner for the vacant Council Seat.
James Wright from Midwest Energy discussed the Franchise Tax that is paid to the City of Sharon Springs. The contract will be ending at the end of 2024. Allan Hurlburt will look over the contract.  Mr. Jay Sharp made a motion to table the Franchise Tax until next month, The motion was seconded by Mr. Paul, Motion approved.
The Library Board requested $25,000.00 for their 2024 Budget. A motion was made to approve the request from the Library Board for $25,000.00 by Mr. Elder, seconded by Mr. Mote, Motion approved.
Bed tax request for a blanket amount of $10,125.00 to be used throughout 2024. Receipts will be required for each purchase.  Mr. Jay Sharp motioned to pass the Bed Tax request of $10,125.00, Mr. Elder seconded, motion approved.
Eklunds Annual Insurance policies renewal was discussed.  Council would like further information from Eklunds about the policies and will be tabled for a Special Meeting before the end of March.
 Mr. Paul moved to approve the Council Meeting minutes with corrections for February4, 2024, motion was seconded by Mr. Mote, motion approved. Mr. Mote moved to approve the Special meeting of February 9, 2024, Mr. Paul seconded the motion, motion approved.  Mr. Mote made a motion to approve payroll and vouchers as presented, seconded by Mr. Paul, motion approved.
Motion to approve the Sharon Springs Fire Department Requestion for new masks and tanks for $33,557.25 by Mr. Elder, motions seconded by Mr. Mote, motion approved.
City Superintendent Report: No Report
 City Attorney Report: No Report
Council Member Reports:  Mr. Sharp moved to go into a executive session for personnel for 15minutes, Mr. Elder seconded motion, motion approved. Deputy Clerk Mitchell and Mr. Hurlburt left the meeting at 6:55pm. Meeting back in session at 7:10pm, no action taken. 
Mayor Wagoner discussed the CD’s that would be needing to be renewed this month and where to move the money.

Water usage report for the water wells was included in the council packets.   
Mr. Elder moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:25pm.; Mr. Smith, seconded the motion, motion approved.
