Commissioner Proceedings 6/10/25

August 26, 2025

The Wallace County Board of Commissioners met in regular session with, Becky Larson, Chairperson, Will Walker, Commissioner, Brian Gailey, Commissioner, and Micaila Lock, County Clerk present.

Warrants # 32900-32950 in the amount of $90,206.66 were approved for payment. Payroll warrants in the amount of $142,455.29 for the working period of May 11, 2025, through May 24, 2025, were approved for payment.

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Larson for business at 8:31 a.m.

Jacalyn Mai, entered the meeting

Commissioner Gailey made a motion to approve May 27th, 2025, minutes. Commissioner Walker Seconded  AYE 3   NAY 0

Jacalyn brought up concerns about the wear and tear of the north park.

Commissioner Gailey made the motion to approve resolution 2025-05. Chair Larson seconded  AYE 2   NAY 1  

Doug Springsteel, Landfill supervisor, entered the meeting.

Doug gave updates on the landfill and was not able to do much because of the rain. He also updates on the recycling bins.

Commissioner Walker made a motion to approve resolution 2025- 06. Chair Larson seconded. AYE 3   NAY 0

Duane Barber, Building and Grounds supervisor, entered the meeting

He gave updates on mowing and having B&K spraying yards to get the weeds knocked down from the moisture. He also gave updates on the county jeep and discussed the north park and how to improve the park.

Marshall Unruh, Sheriff entered the meeting

Marshall discussed budgets along with discussed Sheriff department contract with city of Sharon Springs. He gave updates on the peace app with Sherman County.

Lissa Sexson, Wallace County Community development entered the meeting.

Lissa discussed the Neighborhood Revitalization Plan public hearing being on June 25th at 1:00 pm Wallace County Senior Center. She also discussed how the public hearing will be handled along with each entity holding a special meeting to vote on the NPR. She also gave updates on the housing infrastructure, hiring incentive funds have been utilized, make my move pages built, and working on compiling job openings. She discussed north park resurfacing. Along with the request for the Pool, Senior Center, and Prairie Village getting a grant from the local foundation. Lissa gave updates on the KDOT Safe Route to School Planning.  She gave updates on the KDOT Cost Share for Smoky Hill River Low Water Crossing Project. Jerol from Penco set the letting date is November 2025 and construction date March 2026. She gave updates on Wallace County Music Series.

Commissioner Walker made a motion to approve resolution 2025-07. Commissioner Gailey seconded. AYE 3   NAY 0

Reconvene 1:01 pm

 Clerk Lock presented adds and abatements 2024- 64 through 2024-83 totaling $34,057.46.

Chair Larson make a motion to approve abatements 2024-64 through 2024-83 totaling $34,057.46. Commissioner Gailey Seconded.  AYE 3   NAY 0

The commissioners reviewed the 2026 budget in preparation for the budget workshop with the auditors.

There being no further business and the meeting was adjourned at 4:39 PM.
