USD 242 Board Meeting - July 2023

CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 7:00 pm in the Board Room on July 10th, 2023 with President Eric Purvis presiding. 
ROLL CALL 
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Aaron Aldridge, Mr. Gabe Cox, Mr. Nolan Cox, Mr. Eric Purvis, Mr. Kyle Riedel, Mr. Macy Sexson Mrs. Chris Smith

OTHERS PRESENT: Mr. John Cox (Superintendent), Mr. Jeffrey Montero (Principal), Ms. Morgan Welsh (Clerk), Mr. Brett Clow (Activities Director)
APPROVAL OF AGENDA 
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Macy Sexson) moved to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0. 
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried 7-0. 
COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD
Mr. Clow visited with the Board about KSHSAA.
Mr. Montero gave the principals report on the upcoming Inservice.
Mr. Cox gave the superintendent report in Final Transfers, Positions, Legislative Update and Policy Updates.
PERSONAL 
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Kyle Riedel) moved to approve Connie Okeson as the Deputy Clerk, ReNea Mann as a Temporary Suburban Bus Route Driver, Candy Cox as Board Clerk Aid, and Nik Billion as Summer Maintenance Help.  Motion carried 7-0
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the consent agenda as presented containing the following items:
1116-hour calendar
Review current Organizational Chart
Establish Petty Cash limits
Review records in storage policy
Review immunization policy
Designate Truancy officer (John Cox)
Review units of credit
Authorize an Activity Fund
Review teacher evaluation policy
Establish BOE meeting dates and times (2nd Monday of the month)  
Appoint officer for free and reduced meal application appeals (Eric Purvis)
Appoint food service representative (Heavenly McQuillan)
Appoint district KPERS representative (Morgan Welsh)
Establish textbook rental fees ($55)
Adopt early pay request (KSA 12-105b) 
Establish School Lunch Prices and Breakfast Prices (set prices for all students for breakfast at $2.00, Junior High and High School lunches at $2.75, lunch prices for Elementary School students at $2.50, and lunch prices for adult meals at $3.90; with the understanding that the District will supplement the food service program with general fund money. Milk price will be $.35 per milk)

Appoint School Attorney (KASB Legal Assistance Fund)
Approve Food Service program agreement

Establish substitute teacher salaries ($100 per day)
Establish mileage reimbursement rate ($.50)
Appoint representative to NWKTC (Rob Loftin)

Appoint Freedom of Information Officer (John Cox)
Appoint Deputy Clerk (Connie Okeson)

Motion carried 7-0.
APPROVAL OF BILLS 
Mr. Nolan Cox (Mr. Sexson) moved to approve payment of the bills as presented.  Motion carried 7-0.

Mr. Purvis declared the meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
