USD 241 Board Meeting - February 2023

Roll Call: Craig Sloan, Mark Kuhlman, Ross Cox, Todd Selzer, Camron Funk, Stephanie Johnson, Brad Chubb, Christy Hammer, Matt Brown, Andrew Korte, Val Poe, Patrons
Approval of agenda:
Brad Chubb moved, seconded by Craig Sloan to approve the agenda, as revised.  Motion carried 7 yea.
Consent items:
Brad Chubb moved, seconded by craig Sloan to approve consent items A-C, as presented.  Motion carried 7 yea.
Citizens concerns: None
Staff presentation: Lisa Dewees talked a bit about the ESL program and showed a video that the students had done on kindness.
Athletic/activities: Andrew Korte gave a report on JH and HS athletics; scholar’s bowl and new FB uniforms
Administrative reports:
A. NWKSC - Stephanie Johnson - Stephanie was unable to attend the meeting.
B. NWKTC-Bruce Bolen - Bruce Bolen gave a short report
C. Principal-Matt Brown - Matt reported that the 2023-2024 calendar committee has met; KESA and state testing
D. Superintendent- Christy Hammer - Christy reported that they will be starting on the new GS gym floor around the 27th of February; Glassmans have been here checking on the heating system; new suburban should be here in 60 days; Kyle Gfeller, Tammy Greeson, Christy Hammer and Melinda Daily have volunteered to be on the wellness committee; efficiency review will be done for the food service program; we are on the 5th year of the KESA accreditation; and we will be re-publishing the budget for CTE fund.
Discussion/action items:
1. HeadStart program - Shelby Hubert - Shelby Hubert discussed the HeadStart program with the board.
2. Parental rights/intimidation/presentations - Keara Richardson - Keara Richardson spoke to the board about several topics of interest to her.
3. Review community health needs assessment-youth - Chrysanne Grund - Chrysanne Grund gave a presentation on health needs assessment for youth.
4. Accept resignations
Stephanie Johnson moved, seconded by Todd Selzer to accept the resignation of Deb David, treasurer.  Motion carried 7 yea.
Craig Sloan moved, seconded by Ross Cox to accept the resignation of Jamie Hawkins.  Motion carried 6 yea, 1 nay (Chubb).
5. Calendar approval
Craig Sloan moved, seconded by Brad Chubb to accept calendar #2 for the 2023-2024 school year, as presented.  Motion carried 7 yea
6. Supplemental contracts
Ross Cox moved, seconded by Stephanie Johnson to approve Andrew Korte as HS. track assistant and GS track assistant.  Motion carried 7 yea.
Ross Cox moved, seconded by Stephanie Johnson to approve Kim Dansel as head GS boys track coach.  Motion carried 7 yea.
Executive session: non-elected personnel
Craig Sloan moved, seconded by Camron Funk to go into executive session for ten (10) minutes, for the purpose of discussing non-elected personnel, to protect the privacy rights of said persons and return to this room at 9:34 p.m.  Christy Hammer and Matt Brown are invited in.  Motion carried 7 yea.
Craig Sloan moved, seconded by Ross Cox to go into executive session for ten (10) minutes for the purpose of discussing non-elected personnel, to protect the privacy rights of said persons and return to this room at 9:45 p.m.  Christy Hammer and Matt Brown are invited in.  Motion carried 7 yea.
