USD 242 Board Meeting - November 2022

December 22, 2022

1.   CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 7:00 pm in the Board Room on November 14th, 2022 with President Eric Purvis presiding.  
2.  ROLL CALL
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Gabe Cox, Mr. Eric Purvis, Mr. Kyle Riedel, Mr. Macy Sexson, Mr. Aaron Aldridge, Mr. Nolan Cox, Mrs. Christine Smith
MEMBERS ABSENT: 
OTHERS PRESENT: Mrs. Amy Rother (Superintendent), Mrs. Candy Cox (Clerk), Mr. Brett Clow, Pat Cadle, Amanda Cadle
4. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Mrs. Christine Smith (Mr. Sexson) moved to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0. 
5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Nolan Sexson) moved to approve the minutes of the October meetings as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
6. COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD
Activities Director Report
Mr. Clow gave the AD Report on JH Assistants, Sports Evaluations, Colorado Games at HS Level, Approved Status and Fall Sports.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Mr. Montero gave the Principal’s report on Wallace County Health Dept. Inspection
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Mrs. Rother gave the Superintendents report on the 2023 Health Insurance Update, Tree Removal, Blue House Windows, Bus Drivers, Defensive Driving and Rental Leases.
Mrs. Smith gave her NWKTC report on renovations and property acquisitions.
Mrs. Cox informed the board instead of doing monthly second helping transfers we will do it at the end of each semester. 
7. HEARING OF INDIVIDUALS IN THE AUDIENCE
Mr. Pat Cadle and Mrs. Amanda Cadle talked about FFA. 
8. EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. Sexson (Mrs. Christine Smith) moved to enter into executive session at 8:01 pm. Mr. Clow, Mrs. Rother and Mr. Montero were invited to attend. He further moved to return to the open session at 8:35 pm.  The items to be discussed in the executive is to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA. Mr. Clow, Mrs. Rother and Mr. Montero were invited to attend. Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 8:36 pm.
Mrs. Christine Smith (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to enter into executive session at 8:36 pm.  She further moved to return to the open session at 9:10 pm.  The items to be discussed in the executive is to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA. Mrs. Rother and Mr. Montero were invited to attend. Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 9:11 pm.
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to enter into executive session at 9:12 pm.  He further moved to return to the open session at 9:30 pm.  The items to be discussed in the executive is to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA. Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 9:30 pm.
9. NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to appoint Rob Loftin to replace Christine Smith as the NWKTC Board Representative. Motion carried 7-0.
10.  PERSONAL
Mr. Nolan Cox (Mrs. Christine Smith) move to hire Andy Shoepner for the high school girls head basketball coach for the 2022-2023 school year, at a rate listed in the supplemental salary schedule. Motion carried 7-0.
Mr. Nolan Cox (Mr. Gabe Cox) move to hire Mike Kuykendall for the high school boys assistant basketball coach for the 2022-2023 school year, at a rate listed in the supplemental salary schedule. Motion carried 7-0.
Mr. Aldridge (Mrs. Christine Smith) move to hire Brielle Allen for the junior high school boys assistant basketball coach for the 2022-2023 school year, at a rate listed in the supplemental salary schedule. Motion carried 7-0.
Mr. Aldridge (Mrs. Christine Smith) move to hire Natalie Cox for the junior high school girls assistant basketball coach for the 2022-2023 school year, at a rate listed in the supplemental salary schedule. Motion carried 7-0.
11. Approval of the Bills
Mrs. Christine Smith (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve the bills as presented.  Motion carried 7-0.
11. COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS FROM BOARD MEMBER
Mr. Purvis read a letter he received about Climate Engineering.  The Board discussed the need to look over Supplemental Salary Schedule before negotiations next Spring. 
12. ADJOURNMENT 
Mr. Purvis declared the meeting adjourned at 9:54 pm.
