USD 241 Board Meeting - March 2023

March 28, 2023

Roll call:  Craig Sloan, Mark Kuhlman, Ross Cox, Todd Selzer, Camron Funk, Stephanie Johnson, Brad Chubb, Christy Hammer, Matt Brown, Andrew Korte, Val Poe, Patrons

Approval of agenda:

Craig Sloan moved, seconded by Brad Chubb to approve the agenda, as presented.  Motion carried 7 yea.

Consent items:

Brad Chubb moved, seconded by Ross Cox to approve consent items a-c, as presented.  Motion carried 7 yea.

Citizens concerns: A few questions asked and discussed.

Curriculum presentation: Mrs. Sloan’s 8th- class - Mrs. Sloan and 10 8th grade students demonstrated their class project, 3d model of school, to the board and some patrons.

Athletic/activities:

Mr. Korte gave his report: HS BB girls headed to first round at state in Great Bend;
JH track has started; Forensics got 3rd in Ellis; and, The new gym floor in grade school is progressing.

Administrative reports:
NWKSC-Stephanie Johnson Report is in packet.

NWKTC-Bruce Bolen

Bruce Bolen gave a report on the NWKTC meeting.

Principal-Matt Brown

Matt Brown reported:
Spring break starts next week (March 13-17);OVT (outside visit team) is scheduled for Tuesday; Keli mentoring will be his last one.
Superintendent-Christy Hammer

OVT on Tuesday will be the last one before receiving accreditation; GS gym repairs were started; Two (2) students attended honors band;
JH music festival was held;
Several students have signed up for golf; Two (2) interviews are scheduled for this week; 

Discussion/action items: LOB

Ross Cox moved, seconded by Todd Selzer to increase the LOBb to 33%.  We do not have to increase the LOB, but it is there in case we need it.  The average in the state is 32%.  Motion carried 5 yea, 2 nay (Funk, Chubb).

Track/football field update

Kim Dansel gave an update on track practice.  She is very excited to coach this sport.

Classified employees

Brad Chubb moved, seconded by Ross Cox to approve the administration start looking for someone to train for the clerk position.  Mrs. Poe has expressed to the board that she wishes to retire at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.  Motion carried 7 yea.

Negotiations meeting time - The members of the negotiating team will get together and set up a good time to start the negotiation process.

Executive session: negotiations

Brad Chubb moved, seconded by Craig Sloan to go into executive session for the purpose of discussing negotiation strategies, and return to this room at 8:17 p.m. Mrs. Hammer and Mr. Brown are invited in.  Motion carried 7 yea.
