USD 242 Board Meeting - October 2023

CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 7:00 pm in the Board Room on October 11th, 2023 with President Eric Purvis presiding. 
ROLL CALL 
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Aaron Aldridge, Mr. Kyle Riedel, Mr. Eric Purvis, Mr. Macy Sexson, Mrs. Chris Smith, Mr. Gabe Cox, Mr. Nolan Cox
OTHERS PRESENT: Mr. John Cox (Superintendent), Mr. Jeffrey Montero (Principal), Ms. Morgan Welsh, Mr. Brett Clow, Mrs. Melissa Bretz, Mrs. Julie Aldridge, Mr. David Langdell, Mrs. Christina Aldridge
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve the agenda. Motion carried 7-0.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Sexson) moved to approve the minutes as presented.  Motion carried 7-0.
HEARING OF INDIVIDUALS IN THE AUDIENCE
Mrs. Christina Aldridge gave an updated report on the Senior Trip
COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD
ATHLETIC DIRECTOR’S REPORT
Mr. Clow gave his report on the volleyball league tournament, sub state volleyball, and HS football.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Mr. Montero gave the Principal’s report on Computer Science, Communication, Field Trips and Teaching.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Mr. Cox gave the Superintendents report on Board Policy Review, Smoke Detectors, Kansas Department of Education Commissioner Visit, KSDE Kansas Star Recognition Award Program and Repairs to District Houses.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Sexson) moved to enter into executive session at 7:47 pm to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA, and the open meeting will resume at 8:00 pm. Mr. Montero and Ms. Welsh were invited to attend. Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 8:00 pm.
Mr. Aldridge (Mrs. Smith) moved to enter into executive session at 8:00 pm to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA, and the open meeting will resume at 8:10 pm. Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 8:10 pm.
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to enter into executive session at 8:10 pm to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA, and the open meeting will resume at 8:30 pm. Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 8:30 pm.
Mr. Aldridge (Mrs. Smith) moved to enter into executive session at 8:33 pm.  He further moved to return to the open session at 8:43 pm.  The justification for the executive session is to discuss matters relating to student matters.  The purpose for the executive session is to protect the privacy rights of an identifiable individual. Mr. Montero was invited to attend.   Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 8:43 pm.
PERSONELL
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Sexson) reluctantly moved to accept the written resignation of Morgan Welsh, as of January 31, 2024.
NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve the proposal for less than full time students attending activities with changes. Motion carried 7-0.
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve the proposal on fundraising. Motion carried 7-0.
Mr. Aldridge (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the proposal on senior trips. Motion carried 7-0.
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve HVAC for school owned house. Motion carried 7-0.
Mr. Aldridge (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the proposal on senior trips. Motion carried 7-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve the senior trip. Motion carried 7-0.
APPROVAL OF BILLS
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Cox) moved to approve the bills as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
ADJOURNMENT 
Mr. Purvis declared the meeting adjourned at 10:15 pm.
