USD 242 Board Meeting - September 2023

CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 7:00 pm in the Board Room on September 11th, 2023 with President Eric Purvis presiding. 
ROLL CALL
MEMBERS PRESENT:  Mr. Gabe Cox, Mr. Nolan Cox, Mr. Eric Purvis, Mr. Kyle Riedel, Mr. Macy Sexson, Mrs. Chris Smith 
OTHERS PRESENT:  Mr. Cox (Superintendent), Ms. Morgan Welsh (Clerk), Mr.Jeffrey Montero, Mrs. Julie Aldridge, Mrs. Laura Sexon, Mr. Steve Schemm, Mr. Greg Robinson, Mr. Bryan McKinney, Mrs. Christina Aldridge, Ky Miller, Brennan Aldridge, David Langdell, Dana Hastedt, Essi Nykaenen, Izzi Carrat
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0. 
APPROVAL OF MINUTES 
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve the minutes of the September meetings as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD
TEACHER’S REPORT
Mrs. Aldrige and Mrs. Sexson gave the Teacher Report.
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Mr. Montero gave the Principal’s report on Enrichment, Stairway Beautification, Eligibility, Hunter Pinke, Ft. Wallace Museum Field Trip, Homecoming, Partnership with newspaper, Senior Trip and Drama Club.
SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Mr. Cox gave the Superintendent’s report on Roof Repairs, Windows, HVAC, Office Ceilings, Track Group, Bleachers, Board Policy Review, Smoke Detectors, Fire Alarm Monitoring and Kansas Department of Education Commissioner Visit.
HEARING OF INDIVIDUALS IN THE AUDIENCE
Mrs. Christina Aldridge and the senior class asked for permission to take the senior trip to Florida.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to enter into executive session at 8:41 pm to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA, and the open meeting will resume at 9:00 pm. Mr. Cox and Mr. Montero were invited to attend.  Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 9:10 pm.
Mr. Aldridge (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved to enter into executive session at 9:00 pm to discuss an individual employee's performance. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA, and the open meeting will resume at 9:15 pm. Mr. Cox and Mr. Montero were invited to attend.  Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 9:15 pm.
Mr. Aldridge (Mrs. Smith) moved to enter into executive session at 9:15 pm.  He further moved to return to the open session at 9:35 pm.  The justification for the executive session is to discuss matters relating to student matters.  The purpose for the executive session is to protect the privacy rights of an identifiable individual.  Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 9:35 pm.
NEW BUSINESS
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve two copier machines. Motion carried 7-0.
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve to approve the fire alarm monitoring system. Motion carried 7-0.
OLD BUSINESS 
Mr. Aldridge (Mr. Sexson) moved to approve to approve the Weskan Sports Improvement Committee to spend their funds for the full project on football lights and poles. Motion carried 7-0.
APPROVAL OF THE BILLS
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Nolan cox) moved to approve the bills as presented.  Motion carried 7-0.
ADJOURNMENT 
Mr. Purvis declared the meeting adjourned at 10:42 pm.
