USD 242 Board Meeting - October 2022

December 15, 2022

1.   CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 7:00 pm in the Board Room on October 10th, 2022 with President Eric Purvis presiding. 
2.  ROLL CALL 
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Aaron Aldridge, Mr. Kyle Riedel, Mr. Eric Purvis, Mr. Macy Sexson, Mrs. Chris Smith, Mr. Gabe Cox, Mr. Nolan Cox
MEMBERS ABSENT: 
OTHERS PRESENT: Mrs. Amy Rother (Superintendent), Mr. Montero (Principal), Mrs. Morgan Welsh, Mr. Brett Clow, Mrs. Heavenly McQuillan, Mr. Greg Robinson
3. Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Chris Smith) moved to have Mrs. Welsh be the active Board Clerk. Motion carried 7-0.
4. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve the agenda with changes moving the hearing of individuals.  Motion carried 7-0.
5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved to approve the September minutes as presented.  Motion carried 7-0.

B. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Mr. Montero gave the Principal’s report on P/T Conferences Oct. 13-14, Kansas Can Star Recognition Awards, Project EVERS Social Emotional Data and School Crisis Map.
C. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT
Mrs. Rother gave the Superintendents report on yearbook picture, Christmas Meal Date 12/7, Senior Sneak General Location/Activities and Track Discussion

9. EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to enter into executive session at 9:15 pm to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA, and the open meeting will resume at 9:25 pm.  Mr. Brett Clow, Mrs. Rother and Mr. Montero were invited to attend. Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 9:25 pm.
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to enter into executive session at 9:25 pm to discuss personal. The justification for the executive session is for the exception for non-elected personnel under KOMA, and the open meeting will resume at 9:25 pm.  Mrs. Rother and Mr. Montero were invited to attend. Motion carried 7-0.  The meeting reconvened at 9:45 pm

10.   NEW BUSINESS
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Aldridge) moved to approve the audit report as presented by Jim Myers. Motion carried 7-0.
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve renew the contract submitted by James V. Myers Chartered of Tribune to perform audit services during the 2023-24 school year.  Motion carried 7-0.
11. Personnel 
Mr. Riedel (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved to hire Sarah Patton as janitor at $14,000 per year, plus 75% health insurance benefits, up to $900/mo., prorated for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year.
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Aldridge) moved change to hire Shadd Miller at $9/hr. up to 5 hours per week as a maintenance/janitor’s helper.  Motion carried 7-0.
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to accept the written resignation of William Woodall Ag/History teacher, with his last day being October 14, 2022.
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Riedel) moved to accept the written resignation of Candice Van Allen, science teacher, after the completion of the 2022-2023 contract.
12. Approval of the Bills
Mr. Aldridge (Mr. Riedel) moved to approve the bills as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
13. COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS FROM BOARD MEMBER 
The board visited about the sprinkler system and the parking lot and bus loading zone.
14. ADJOURNMENT 
Mr. Purvis declared the meeting adjourned at 10:20 pm.
