USD 242 Board Meeting - June 2023

July 25, 2023

The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 7:00 pm in the Board Room on June 12, 2023 with President Eric Purvis presiding. 

ROLL CALL

MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Aaron Aldridge, Mr. Gabe Cox, Mr. Nolan Cox, Mr. Eric Purvis, Mrs. Christine Smith, Mr. Macy Sexson

MEMBERS ABSENT: Mr. Kyle Riedel

OTHERS PRESENT:  Amy Rother (Superintendent), Jeffrey Montero (Principal) Morgan Welsh (Clerk), Mr. & Mrs. Tittel

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Mrs. Smith (Mr. Aldridge) moved to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 6-0.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the minutes as presented.  Motion carried 6-0.

HEARINGS OF INDIVIDUALS IN THE AUDIENCE

Mrs. Tittel shared information over human trafficking.

COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD 

Mr. Clow reported on KSHAA Rec. Stay approved for JH, KSHSAA new law that requires allowing in-district homeschool students to be allowed to play and recommendations for volleyball coaches. The bleachers, scoreboard, high jump pit and long jump runner are ordered.

Mr. Montero reported on Crisis Plan and Surveillance Visit.

Mrs. Rother reported on Casualty and Property Insurance, Tornado Damage Updates, Kitchen Updates/Sped sink room, Credit Card, Bus Route, Personnel – Kitchen Aid, Neg. Agreement Adoption, Faculty Handbook Adoption, KESA Full Accreditation, Student Headcount 2023-2024, Summer School, Pest Away, Special BOE Meeting for End of Year Stipends.

Ms. Welsh reported she had transferred $2003 from general fund to food service to cover the cost of second helpings for the second semester.

NEW BUSINESS

Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to update changes to the Crisis Management Plan, as presented. Motion carried 6-0.

Mr. Sexson (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved to approve the Faculty Handbook changes, as presented. Motion carried 6-0.

Mrs. Smith (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve the Negotiated Agreement changes, as presented. Motion carried 6-0.

Mr. Sexson (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve raising the certified salary schedule base by $500, beginning in the 2023-24 school year. Motion carried 6-0.

PERSONNEL

Mrs. Smith (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to offer the HS Head Volleyball Coach to Brynne Wright, as per supplemental salary agreement. Motion carried 6-0.

Mr. Aldridge (Mr. Sexson) moved to accept the resignation of HS Volleyball Assistant Coach Kassandra Summers. Motion carried 6-0.

Mr. Aldridge (Mr. Nolan Cox) move to offer the JH Head Volleyball Coach to Morgan Welsh, as per supplemental salary agreement. Motion carried 6-0.

Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to offer a contract to Shirley Moore for Kitchen helper at a rate of $12/hr. for up to 28 hrs./wk. for the 2023-24 school year. Motion carried 6-0.

Mr. Sexson (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to temporarily hire Nick Billion as an afternoon school suburban route driver for the after-school program at a rate of $1852.93 per year until a CDL certified afternoon driver can be found. Motion carried 6-0.  
Mr. Nolan Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to temporarily hire Nick Billion as a morning and afternoon suburban route driver at a rate of $6500 per year until a CDL certified afternoon driver can be found. Motion carried 6-0.

Mrs. Smith (Mr. Sexson) moved to hire Warren Bretz as an afternoon school suburban route driver at a rate of $6500 per year. Motion carried 6-0.

APPROVAL OF BILLS

Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the bills as presented.  Motion carried 6-0.

ADJOURNMENT

Mr. Purvis declared the meeting adjourned at 9:30 pm.
