The Wallace County Board of Commissioners met in regular session with, Michael Cowles, Commissioner, Becky Larson, Commissioner, Brionna Colvin, County Clerk, and Micaila Lock, Deputy County Clerk present.
Warrants # 31207-31274 in the amount of $ 103,730.92 were approved for payment. Payroll warrants in the amount of $57,263.41 for the working period of April 28,2024, through May11, 2024 were approved for payment.
Will Walker, Owner of W&C Plumbing entered the meeting.
The meeting was called to order by Commissioner Larson at 8:30 a.m.
Will updated the commissioners on the plumbing work he did over the weekend.
Marshal Unruh, Sheriff entered the meeting.
Bev Elder, Representing the Conservation District entered the meeting.
Bev gave updates for the conservation district budget for 2024 and asked for $20,000 for the 2025 budget. Two scholarships were granted for students going into an ag major. Funds for the scholarship are from the sales of seed and trees.
Marshal, Re-entered the meeting.
Duane Barber, Building and Grounds Supervisor entered the meeting.
Duane gave the commissioners updates on his department.
Marshal Unruh Sheriff talked about the bid to pour concrete in the flower beds at the south entrance of the courthouse. The sheriff’s department will pay for that.
Commissioner Larson made a motion to approve the bid for the improvement for the south entrance sidewalk, Commissioner Cowles Seconded AYE 2 NAY 0
Duane discussed the maintenance of the pool and possible opening date.
Anthony Garcia, Road Department Supervisor, entered the meeting.
Anthony said the signs are in for the road project. He would like instructions on to where they should be placed from Larry. The crew are working diligently to maintain the roads, ditches, and helping get the fairgrounds mowed.
Don Rivera, Representing Western Kansas Child Advocacy entered the meeting.
Don reminded the commissioners about all the services the WKCA provides. The services are free for all families. He requested $5000 for the 2025 budget.
Marshal, Re-Entered the meeting.
Marshal went over his 2025 budget. There was discussion about the struggle to hire and what avenues can help in the future.
Maggie Figurilli, Register of Deeds Entered the meeting.
Maggie discussed her 2025 budget. She shared her opportunity to teach some of the classes at her conference and mentioned a couple of line items that could possibly be cut.
Christine Smith, Treasures entered the meeting.
Christine went over her 2025 budget. During the discussion she suggested a salary scouting. Another suggestion was to reevaluate the counties’ contributions to employees’ insurance.

Commissioner Larson moved to go into executive session at 11:30 pm for Personnel exception-Personnel matter of individual NON-ELECTED personnel for 5 minutes and return at 11:35 pm. Invited in are the 2 commissioners, Clerk Colvin, Micaila Lock and Applicant. Commissioner Cowles seconded. AYE 2 NAY 0
Returned to regular session at 11:35 no decision made.
Commissioner Larson made a motion to hire Nicholas Bartlett for lifeguard at $15.00. Commissioner Cowles seconded. AYE 2 NAY 0

Wendy Dunagan, Appraiser entered the meeting.
Wendy discussed Lease on land between Greeley and Wallace Counties. She went over her 2025 budget.
Terry Dobbs, Owner of TEHE Enterprises, INC. Entered the meeting.
Terry talked about the repairs on the Senior Center and gave an estimate.
Commissioner Cowles Moved to accept the estimate of $7,985.00 from Terry Dobbs to repair the Senior Center, Commissioner Larson Seconded AYE 2 NAY 0
Bob Bolen, Noxious weed/Prairie dog Supervisor Entered the meeting.
Bob went over his 2025 budget for Noxious weed and Prairie dog. He talked about possible repairs on his Sprayer Pickup and is looking into getting a new side by side.
Commissioner Larson Made a motion to adopted Resolution 2024-12 it was move and seconded by commissioner Cowles. AYE 2 NAY 0
