USD 242 Board Meeting - April 2024

CALL TO ORDER
The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in regular session at 7:00 pm in the Board Room.
ROLL CALL
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mr. Aaron Aldridge, Mr. Gabe Cox, Mr. Nolan Cox, Mr. Eric Purvis, Mr. Kyle Riedel, Mr. Macy Sexson (arrived at 7:03), Mrs. Chris Smith
OTHERS PRESENT: Mr. John Cox (Superintendent), Mrs. Heavenly McQuillan, Mr. Jeffrey Montero, Mr. Brett Clow, Mrs. Laura Sexson 
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Mrs. Smith (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve the agenda as presented.  Motion carried 6-0.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the minutes as presented.  Motion carried 6-0.
COMMUNICATIONS TO AND FROM THE BOARD 
Mrs. Laura Sexson gave the teacher’s report: Kindergarten has chicken hatching in their room.  Thanks to the Mitchek’s for bringing them in again, the kids love watching them. K-12 watched the eclipse at the football field, state assessment testing is underway and going well. KESA days with reviews for the teachers, Friday is in-service day. The cosmosphere presentation was a hit with all kids, there is another one coming up as well that Mrs. Palmer has planned. K-3 field trip in May, along with hospital visit, they will visit the shrimp farm in Cheyenne Wells. WTA has met with Gabe for negations.
Mr. Brett Clow gave the athletic director repot: The football lights are up and have been turned on. There are a few more lights that will be put up on Tuesday, along with adjustments to the other lights. Jr. High and High school track is underway, both are going well. League music Weskan Jr. High and High school did well. 
Mr. Montero gave the Principal’s Report: Scholarships are coming to an end. End of year field trips are planned. Mr. Montero is working with kids on the eligibility report. Finalizing schedule for next year. 
Mr. John Cox gave the superintendent’s report: KESA visit, open position updates, HB2567, JBCC, security work, door signage, summer help, football lights, Weskan virtual school full-time, Wallace county community development committee, Mark Tallman (KASB) visit. 
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved to enter into executive session at 7:45 pm to discuss performance and perspective employment, and to return to the open session at 7:55 pm. The justification for the executive session is non-elected personnel exception under KOMA. Mr. John Cox and Mr. Clow were invited to attend.  The purpose for the executive session is to protect the privacy rights of an identifiable individual. Motion carried 7-0. Meeting reconvened at 7:55 pm.
Mr. Aldridge (Mr. Sexson) moved to enter into executive session at 7:55 pm to discuss negotiations and to return to the open meeting at 8:20pm. The justification for the executive session is the exception for employer-employee negotiations under KOMA, Mr. John Cox was invited to attend.  Motion carried 7-0. Meeting reconvened at 8:20 pm.  
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Riedel) moved to enter into executive session at 8:20 pm to discuss negotiations and to return to the open meeting at 9:50 pm. The justification for the executive session is the exception for employer-employee negotiations under KOMA, Mr. John Cox was invited to attend.  Motion carried 7-0. Meeting reconvened at 9:50 pm.  
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Nolan Cox) moved to reimburse employee for wage, discussed during executive session. Motion carried 7-0. 
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to accept the revision of JBCC Good standing policy revisions. Motion carried 7-0. 
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Riedel) moved to move forward with the Greenbush Blended Learning Math MOU, depending on teachers positions. Motion carried 7-0. 
NEW BUSINESS 
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mr. Sexson) moved to approve the amend funeral policy language as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
APPROVAL OF BILLS
Mr. Sexson (Mr. Gabe Cox) moved to approve the bills as presented.  Motion carried 7-0.
ADJOURNMENT
Mr. Purvis declared the meeting adjourned at 11:06 pm.

USD 242 Board Meeting - May 2024 special

The Board of Education of Unified School District 242, Wallace County, Kansas, met in special session at 7:00 am in the board room with President Eric Purvis presiding.

CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Purvis called the meeting to order.
 NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Gabe Cox (Mrs. Smith) moved to approve the purchasing of a new bus on lease purchase through Eastern Colorado Bank. Motion carried 7-0. 
ADJOURNAMENT
Mr. Purvis declared the meeting adjourned at 7:43 am.
